Major Frederick Thomas Albert Brehaut MBE MM TD was a Past Master of Bloomsbury Rifles Lodge, our daughter Lodge.

Born in 1885 in St Helier, Jersey, to Nicholas F Brehaut and Laura Elizabeth Brehaut (née Smith), he had seven siblings. He married Gertrude Priscilla Squibb in 1913. They had a son Kenneth Frederick Brehaut, who fought with the York & Lancasters in the Second World War.

He rose the the rank of (acting) Company Sergeant Major with the Regiment, being Mentioned for his part in the defence at Hill 60 and winning the Military Medal (gazetted in November 1916) before being commissioned into the RAOC on 10 August 1915. He was promoted (temp) Captain in 1917. He served in the Home Guard in th Second World War and was granted the TD in 1944. He retired from the Army in 1948 a Major.

AWARDED THE MILITARY MEDAL

The Military Medal for bravery on the field, has been awarded to 450 Sergt. F. T. A. Brehaut, London Regiment. The gallant recipient, who is now a Lieutenant in the Army Ordnance Department, is the eldest son of Mr. N. F. Brehaut, of 1, Clifton Terrace, Canichers.
Lieutenant Brehant was Company-Sergt.-Major in the County of London (Queen Victoria’s Rifles) Territorials. He had completed 12 years’ service prior to the outbreak of war, and possesses the Long Service Medal. Lieut. Brehaut left for France in October, 1914, He was specially commended by Lieut.-Colonel R. B. Shipley for special service at Hill 60, was gazetted Lieutenant in the Army Ordnance Department in September, 1915. Lieut. Brehaut is now serving in France. Before the outbreak of the war Mr. Brehaut was on the staff of the Fore Street Warehouse Company, London. Mrs. Brehaut resides at Harrow-on-the-Hill, London.

He joined the Lodge in January 1947, becoming Worshipful Master in 1949. He was DC from 1951 to 1962, when he was elected Worshipful Master for the second time, but sadly passed away before he could be installed.

He was made an MBE in 1949.

He died in 1962.
