Everard William Kingdon was born in 1867, the seventh child and fifth son of Paul Augustine Kingdon and Elizabeth Fortescue Foulkes. Paul was a Barrister born in 1820, in Bridgerule, Devon. Elizabeth was born in 1828, in Newton St Petrock also in Devon, and her father was the vicar of Shebbear. He was one of the three Kingdon brothers in the Lodge.

Everard was initiated by his eldest brother Henry, alongside his youngest brother William in February 1901. He was passed and raised, but unfortunately resigned in October 1905.
