Lewis was born in 18 May 1863 in Stoke Newington to Francis Theodore Lewis and Sylvia St Mary Ball, the second of their seven children.

Lewis went to Merchant Taylors’ School before going up to the Queen’s College Oxford in 1881, taking his degree in 1884.

He enlisted in the Northants Regt at Newcastle at the outbreak of the Great War. He was serving with 1st Labour Company of the Northamptonshire Regiment when he died 30 March 1917 at Holborn Military Hospital, Mitcham, Surrey.

He was initiated into the Lodge on 3 December 1891, being passed and raised the following year. He went on to serve as Worshipful Master. He also joined St John’s Thanet Lodge No 2753 in East Kent.
